Casting For Recovery needs Volunteers

Helpers are needed for Sunday June 9th Casting For Recovery event!!!

Essentially helpers will act as one on one guides to the CFR retreat participants. There is an official “job description” and some information on teaching fly fishing to breast cancer survivors. The time commitment is from 8:45 to at least 12 on Sunday, June 9th and river helpers are invited and encouraged to stay for lunch. This year’s retreat will be held in Stowe – people will meet at the Golden Eagle Resort.

If this appeals to people, they will need to fill out an online volunteer application at www.castingforrecovery.org and once that’s done, additional information will be sent to you. This would be a good opportunity to see how this wonderful program works “from the inside”.

Fly Tying Nights

Hi Folks-

Winter fly tying is back!  The next informal fly tying session is going to be held at the Quechee Inn in Quechee, VT on Thursday, January 10 starting at 7pm.  As mentioned, this is an informal tying session where you can grab a drink, tie up a few flies, chat with fellow Chapter members, and maybe even catch a glimpse of Marty Banak’s infamous Hornbergs.
Best,
Seth

This month’s featued speaker is Greg Russ, project manager for the White River Partnership (and chapter board member).  Greg will tell us about the post-Irene culvert replacement projects being done on the upper White to improve fish passage, as well as the “engineered log jam” project done in South Royalton, VT (which our chapter helped fund).  Greg also will talk about our chapter’s application for a 2013 Embrace-A-Stream grant from TU national to replace the fish ladder that was blown out during Irene on Mill Brook (a trib of the White River just upstream from the West Hartford bridge).  Greg’s powerpoint presentation is pretty impressive.  Come see how your membership funds and banquet donations are being spent to improve our local fisheries!
